What does a Business Analyst do?

Business analysts are experts in business analysis. Their main objective is to define and recommend the best possible solution to meet a specific business need. This solution may relate to governance, business operations or information systems.

They are similar to functional project managers, acting as a link between project owners and project managers, i.e. between IT departments and operational departments.

Business analysts carefully examine data and business processes in order to solve problems or facilitate change, particularly during transition phases.

1. Analysis above all: like a detective, functional consultants have strong analytical skills that enable them to exploit data and evaluate processes realistically. To do this, they are proficient in analysis methods (SWOT, Kanban, etc.) and modelling techniques (BPMN 2.0, UML – Unified Modelling Language, etc.).

2. Proficiency in reporting tools: Business analysts use tools such as Excel and Power BI on a daily basis to manage the data in their possession and format the elements they have identified, as well as the solutions they propose. In France, a junior business analyst with 1 to 3 years of experience earns an average of between €35,000 and €45,000 gross per year, or a monthly salary of €2,900 to €3,750 gross per month.
This salary is also supplemented by additional remuneration of around €2,500 per year, corresponding to performance bonuses and certain benefits.
The income of a business analyst at the start of their career varies according to their level of education. The more qualified they are, the higher their salary.
